About Sierra Music Cooperative

For Love of Community & Music

Sierra Music Cooperative is a community-driven nonprofit organization rooted in the Eastern Sierra. We exist to make music education accessible, not just to families who can afford private lessons, but to every young person in this region who has the curiosity to learn.

We believe that music is one of the most powerful tools for youth and community development. It teaches discipline, collaboration, creative problem-solving, and self-expression in a welcoming and inclusive environment. And in a rural community like ours, it can also be a lifeline.

Sierra Music Cooperative was founded by local musicians and educators who saw a gap in arts programming for Eastern Sierra youth. What started as an idea among neighbors has grown into a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

We are volunteer-driven, community-funded, and locally focused. Our instructors are working musicians. Our board members are parents, teachers, and community leaders.

501(c)(3) Status

Sierra Music Cooperative is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 41-3235626). All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our exemption was granted effective November 17, 2025.

Get Involved today!

Share your passion. Teach the next generation. Make music with our community.

Sierra Music Cooperative is looking for musicians, producers, engineers, and builders who want to give back. Volunteer to teach kids hands-on classes in music performance, recording, production, and stage set building. No formal teaching experience required, just a love for your craft and a willingness to share it.

Not into teaching? That’s okay too. The Co-op is a place for local musicians to connect, collaborate, and perform in a supportive, creative environment. Whether you’re looking for a band, a jam session, or just a room full of people who get it. There’s a place for you here.
